Blog: It’s time to remember the Battle of Britain
YFT is getting ready to commemorate ‘our finest hour’
It can’t have escaped your attention that this summer marks the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, where a handful of brave pilots of the Royal Air Force successfully repelled the might of the German Luftwaffe and thwarted Hitler’s plan to invade the British Isles.
To commemorate the RAF’s achievement the BBC is preparing a season of programmes about the Battle and early years of the War throughout September. As well as detailed histories of the Battle and the men who fought in it there are shows focusing on the lesser-known role of female pilots and even criminals who hampered the British public’s attempts to resist the Nazi war machine.
What’s more, we’re especially exited about the next issue of Your Family Tree, which is out on 9 September, just in time for the main celebrations! It’ll help you discover those who fought, as well as everyone else on the Home Front, from Land Girls and the Home Guard to child evacuees and more. Keep an eye out!
