Victorian love story goes online

Watch the era-defining saga of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert unfold online.

To celebrate the re-opening of Kensington Palace next month, the Historic Royal Palaces charity is telling the story of Victoria and Albert’s romance in five online episodes this week.

The films show the royal lovers’ story – from their births three months apart to their wedding ceremony – using excerpts from Victoria’s personal diaries and Albert’s letters.

The re-opening of the palace on 26 March will feature Victoria Revealed, a new exhibition showing pivotal moments in her life, including her birth, her unhappy childhood under the so-called ‘Kensington System’, and her first meeting with Albert on the palace’s Stone Stairs.

In the first episode, cousins Victoria and Albert grow up in separate countries with families planning their future together. However, their first meeting does not go according to plan…
